Elk Grove (Calif.) Pleasant Grove DE/TE Armond Armstead (6-6, 285), has kept himself busy with AAU basketball this spring, but he’s still found the time to mix in football recruiting. “I am going to Houston this weekend for an AAU tournament and then I’m going to Vegas next weekend,” said Armstead. “So I’ve been busy with basketball.”
Three schools have offered Armstead a football scholarship: San Diego State, Nevada and Fresno State while Armstead thinks a pair of Pac-10 schools could be adding to that.

“I think Washington and Washington State could be next to offer me,” said Armstead. “I’m hearing from Michigan plus almost of all of the teams in the Pac-10 like Cal, UCLA and Arizona. All the teams but USC have been really talking to me.”

Armstead said that being a California native, naturally, his affinity is for the Pac-10.

“That’s the best conference to play in. I like all of the schools. Right now, I’ve been hearing a lot from Cal. Coach (Kevin) Daft has been recruiting me and I went down there for an unofficial visit. I’ve heard from UCLA too, Coach (Bob) Connelly has been writing me.”

Armstead said he was wide open at this point and no leader has emerged, but he has an idea of the schools he’d like to visit.

“I’d like to visit Washington, Stanford, USC, Cal and UCLA,” said Armstead. “I’ll probably do it unofficially because I will make my decision around the end of summer when football season starts.”

Armstead said that most schools are recruiting him to play on either side of the ball.

“They’re recruiting me for both and telling me I could choose what side I want to play on,” said Armstead. “All the schools that have offered me said I could play both. Probably, I’d prefer the defensive side of the ball.”

Armstead said that while football is his first choice, basketball could be something he does in college.

“If my grades are good enough and I can play (with football), I probably will try to play basketball too,” said Armstead.

During his junior year, Armstead had 79 tackles from his defensive end spot.

Armstead has a 3.0 GPA and will take the SAT in May.
