Fresno
State made another offer on Monday and once again the player
is from the Sacramento area. The mammoth defensive end now has
three offers on the table and a number of high-profile
programs may be close behind.
Elk
Grove (Calif.) Pleasant Grove defensive end
Armond Armstead is big and strong and looks the part of a
DI defensive end. RedWaveReport.com caught up with Armond and
his father on Tuesday morning and discussed his options.
"They offered him yesterday and said they would be sending
something in the mail," father Guss Armstead said. "We are
going to go down and meet with the coaches. We are going to
call down there today and set something up. I have always been
a Fresno State fan so we are going to check them out."
Armstead is 6-foot-6, 265 pounds and finished with 49 tackles
in 2006. He also plays basketball at Pleasant Grove and
averaged nearly a double-double on the basketball court this
season. Armstead says he is excited about the offer.
"I have liked them since I was in 8th grade," Armstead said.
Armstead has other offers from San Diego State and Nevada and
has been receiving attention from Cal, Washington, UCLA,
Nebraska, Michigan, Texas A&M and Boise State.
"I got San Diego State about three weeks ago and Nevada about
two weeks ago," Armstead said. "Fresno State has been talking
to my dad. They requested film about a week ago and offered
yesterday."
Armstead says he will likely make his decision early.
"I'll probably make a decision before the season starts during
the summer," Armstead said. "They are all about even right
now."
Armstead attended a junior day at Washington two weeks ago and
will visit Cal unofficially this Friday. He also plays tight
end, fullback and was used sparingly on the offensive line at
Pleasant Grove.
